HDD Help

Hey all, hope all is well.

Wondering if any of your more knowledgeable folk could help me out with a little hardware issue I am having.

I have 3 Hdds in my pc, one for windows and apps, one for my documents and one for random other crap.

Booted my pc up yesterday and for some reason windows wont see my hdd for my documents it doesnt show up at all not even in device manager.

However it does show up in my bios menus, it shows all 3 drives.

I have switched cables, ports and power leads and still cannot get windows to find the bugger, now if the bios wouldnt have found it then I would be inclined to say the hdd is screwed, which sadly I think it probably is, but the fact that the bios finds it gives me little hope lol.

Anyone got any clues?

generally speaking mate it means your hard drive is not formatted, now obviously it is because you have stuff stored on it, have a look in disk manager in windows see if windows see's your disk as raw. Now if this is the case it may be a problem with the drives mbr and you can format/rebuild that (not to sure on perminant loss of other stuff though). You maybe able to salvage stuff off of the hard drive before formatting with a dos based clone type programme (have a look at acronis, heard good things about this). The hdd doesn't show up at all in the disk manager.

Ill check out that acronis, I think I have a copy of the ultimate boot cd lying around somewhere which has some hdd tools on that I may also check out.

I had this problem I had to pull hard drive out and remove stuff off it then reformat it m8 so it could be found again by windows m8 I have 4 hdds in mine and had to do it twice m8 bcos i couldnt find out how to do it beer

Using a 5mm masonry drill bit drill a hole through the centre of the drive (for some reason masonry bits work better )
then blow through 1 side whilst holding a steel seive to the other side, you will then find all your documents safe in the sieve in little byte size pieces
To restore them do the same with a perfectly good hard drive. This time blow the bits from the sieve back into the good hard drive.
works for me every time
PS I meant to take a photo to illustrate how its done so if you could take photos at each stage and post them on the clan website that would be most helpful

Seems like its dead dead now.

Bios wont recognise it, when I connect it and boot up, pc hangs for 30 seconds at boot screen and still doesn't find the hdd.

Looks like I may have to buy a new one.

Theres nothing vitally important on there well nothing im willing to pay to try and get back lol, just an inconvenience, not to mention a pain having to buy a new hdd lol.

I think when I get a new one will format whole computer and give it a nice fresh start.

I have some software that can the retrieve files from the hard drive if you put it in another pc

Cheers clone, I think I have something similar, I just cant be bothered with it to be honest, mostly full of crap anyway.
