have you tried to see if you have a firewall blocking it? Also, do you use a wireless router? Check to see you have that all passworded up so no one is leaching onto you. My wireless router doesnt like CoD4 so much, it lets me connect to a server via xfire, but as soon as i try to join a new server in-game, it throws a hissy fit and i get CI\'s for about 4-5mins then its ok again. You should also check you have xfire/steam allowed on your fire wall ect. When you get the lagg does your ping go up at all or is it just the FPS? You could maybe try a older verson of you card driver see if that helps? Make sure your direct x is up to date aswell. LOl sry for the longish reply, but thats all i can think of :p

there isn\'t a firewall blocking it,no i dont have a wireless router, xfire and steam are allowed yes and its just the FPS that fuck about i play smooth with high 80\'s-to90\'s FPS then when the lag kicks in i get around 16 but yesterday i got down to 6-7 ... and no it isnt the driver

You state in your first post that you have this problem since you installed the new mobo right. so i guess the problem is there.
check for driverupdates for the mobo/chipset, check for bios updates. Also might want to run some monitoring software to make sure nothing is overheating like CPU/ northbridge or GPU.

btw what OS are you using? It is know issue for vista to lag every two minutes if you have a wireless card installed cause it searches for networks. you can however disable the service.
