Hi all. Been out of the game for a while so not really sure what is best on the market in terms of PC health? I'm still using the following:-

Avast free
Spybot S&D
Defraggler
CCleaner.

Any one have any other suggestions? Free is better for me lol!

I'm also looking at buying an SSD this week and windows. I'm just not sure whether to go for win7 or win8 if people could give me some advice?

thanks

Mayhem (rob)

If you have already got windows 7 stick with it, but if you are after an upgrade, id say you'd get about a 5/10% increase in windows 8.

Bit of a change but you can always install a start button if you don't like the tiles :D

I don't use anything 3rd party any more, just Microsoft Security Essentials, which is free, on Windows 7 computers.

This is built into Windows 8 though in the form of Windows Defender.

Not had any issues in years.

After a clean windows install and setup with all my basic programs I create a windows image which I know is virus free. I can then restore to this in the event that I fuck up my PC.

I forgot to say, if you have Windows 7 I'd stick with it. I wouldn't fork out extra for Win 8

Kaspersky internet security 2013. Not free though. AVG is running on my second rig. That's free :)
At work i'm using ccleaner in addition to the work filters.

OK, so I am hopefully buying a SSD and win7 today. Are they easy to install? I've watched a couple videos on YouTube and they seem pretty straight forward including changing the obvious settings in the Bios.

Make sure your drive mode is AHCI instead of IDE in the bios before installing windows.
